His mention of a spanking was a bombshell that made my face flush with embarrassment and I didn't know how to react. I knew I had done something really wrong to him as I tried to think of something to say but if I protested it might ignite anger from him and if I agreed it might really mean a spanking so I said nothing. The room remained silent as I could feel Uncle Jason's presence as he gazed at me. Then he finally said calmly: “I think you should go to your room now and wait for me Billy so we can settle this.”I was relieved that he wasn’t yelling or beating me like I’m sure my Dad would have done and although it wasn't quite a command I sort of knew he intended it as one. I did want to resolve this and I figured going to my room would help do that so I solemnly nodded and walked back to my room and sat on the bed and wondered what he intended to do because I thought it was likely his talk of a spanking was bluster stated in a moment of frustration with my behavior.
